WHAT: Back in the day, female baroque composers were rather thin on the ground; before Xena & Wonder Woman, we had Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre & Isabella Leonarda.
Featuring Jacquet de la Guerre’s “Le Sommeil d’Ulisse”, with drawings by New Yorker cartoonist Victor Varnado. Ensemble Leonarda is pleased to be collaborating with composer Elizabeth Brown on a new work for baroque band, voice, and shamisen, A Glimpse at Dawn 暁に ほのかに, text by Otomae (1085 – 1169).
This is a 1-hour concert, no intermission.
